THE STONEMASONS INN

The Inn
The origin of The Stonemason’s Inn was as a row of fifteenth century buildings, probably all cottages. It is uncertain when the buildings were first used as a hostelry, but the position on the outskirts of the town and near a busy road junction would have been a prime one for many centuries.
The building certainly dates from at least 1780 and the Inn has been variously called Vinson’s, The Mason’s Arms, The Trap and latterly and now The Stonemason’s Inn.
Much effort has gone in to preserving parts of its history, as evidenced by the quaintly named Uncle Jed’s Parlour, and Mrs. Smith’s cottage-both used now as dining areas-where fires glow in their open hearths in winter.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our home cooked food and interesting wine list, our range of beers from national and micro breweries, while our comfortable accommodation is a step back in time: although the amenities are entirely modern!
